I hope all of you in the states had a fantastic Thanksgiving holiday yesterday.
Of the many things I’m thankful for is your support of Brainjo. It remains a privilege and a thrill to serve so many wonderful people, and it’s something I hope to continue to be able to do for many years to come.
I’m also thankful that the banjo tradition is clearly alive and well, and continues to grow.
Speaking of annual feasts of gratitude, I imagine the subject of today’s Song of the Week, the “Big Eyed Rabbit”, found its way onto many a Thanksgiving plate over the years, especially in the Appalachian South.
Tommy Jarrell is usually credited with this version of it, and he’s where I picked it up from.
In jams, you’ll most likely hear it fiddled in the key of A. Being a bit out of my vocal register, I’m tuned down here a full step to the slightly more comfortable key of G.
So, for all the cottontails and hares who gave their lives so that others might live, we offer these notes of our appreciation.
