I love the music of the holidays. Beyond being a collection of great melodies that have stood the test of time, many of them sound great on the banjo, and make for a great way to introduce clawhammer to the uninitiated. Altogether, it’s great to have a stable of music for the holidays as part of your repertoire.
In December or 2014, I released a new holiday classic on the banjo every day for 12 days as part of the “12 Days of Banjo.” I’ve since completed a book of tablature and video tutorials for all the tunes, which is available right here!
Each song selection has two versions tabbed out, – a Brainjo level 3-4 arrangement that I played as part of the “12 Days of Banjo” video series, and a simplified Brainjo level 2 arrangement. 13 songs and 26 arrangements in all (more info on the Brainjo levels can be found here).
The songs are:
- Angels We Have Heard on High
- Deck the Halls
- God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman
- Good King Wenceslas
- Hark the Herald
- Jingle Bells
- Jolly Ol’ St. Nicholas
- Joy to the World
- Oh Come All Ye Faithful
- Silent Night
- We Three Kings
- Up on a Housetop
- Auld Land Syne
To hear what the primary arrangement for each of these sounds like, you can play through the “12 Days of Banjo” video playlist below:
Package One – Tabs and Tunes
With this option, you’ll get the 44-page “12 Days of Banjo” e-book of tablature, as well as 26 downloadable audio tracks (as 2 zip files), which includes the “12 Days of Banjo” album (all songs from the video series) plus all 13 of the Brainjo level 2 arrangements. This will allow you to know how each arrangement should sound before tackling the tablature.
