Let’s go crawdad hunting!

This week’s song, Crawdad Hole, with its appeal to ears of all ages, is always a crowd favorite. It’s also a great song to tackle if you’re just getting started playing and singing – just 16 bars long, perfectly suited to standard G tuning with a minimum of fretting hand maneuvering needed.

Plus, learn this one and you’ll get a bonus song, as “Froggy Went A Courtin'” uses the exact same melody. It’s a 2-for-1!

Notes on the Tab

In the tab above, you’ll note I’ve tabbed out both a “lead break” (something to play in between verses) and the “vocal backup” (what I play while I’m singing).

Notes in parentheses are “skip” notes – to learn more about skips and syncopated skips, check out my video lesson on the subject.

Josh, this great! Do you by any chance have the words for the Froggy Went a Courting version of this tune?

He doesn’t look like a photo I have of their father around the same time. He wasn’t a heavy man in my photo. I don’t know what their grandfather looked like. Wonder if I can google him.

“Froggie went a courtin'” and “Crawdad Hole” are usually treated as different songs (even though the melody is identical).

Thanks for doing this one. It’s definitely fun! When I used to sing it* with my Mom as a kid, we always sang it slower and more laid back. I think your rendition might have almost been too fast for your backup singer. 😎

*along with She’ll Be Coming ‘Round The Mountain, Oh Susanna, and a bunch of other classic sing-alongs

Has anyone conceived a baby naturally with a ?My husband has poor motility but a very high . I am completely normal. We have only been trying for a year – should we keep trying for a bit longer or go straight to IVF? I have just had a fallopian tube test that can apparently for the following four months – should we keep trying naturally until after that point? Has anyone had a natural pregnancy after one of those tests? Your personal experiences would be most appreciated.

Ha! I used to play this with a bluegrass band in the 80’s!
Your daughters harmony is spot on. I loved it. Are you teaching her to play anything?

Yep, another three mile smile. That is great! And as usual, Jules is awesome!

This one might need the “slow downer” machine for me to study it a bit, but its a keeper for sure.

I’ve never heard that before–but now it’s the only way I’m going to be able to hear this song:
