Would you love to be able to create your own clawhammer banjo versions of your favorite songs, but find the whole process overwhelming?
While to those who aren’t used to doing it the process of taking a song and adapting it to the banjo by ear can seem like wizardry, the secret is that it really just involves a logical series of steps that anyone can learn how to do.
And few people realize just how versatile clawhammer style can be, especially for solo performance.
So, in this free live online workshop, that’s exactly what I’ll be demonstrating – how to take any song, regardless of genre, break it down into its core components, then build it up again, step by step, in clawhammer banjo style.
When? July 12 at 1pm Eastern time
Questions about the Workshop?
Q: What level of a player will benefit from it?
A: Anyone interested in clawhammer banjo will benefit, though ideally you’re already familiar with the basics of the style. So anyone from late beginner to advanced level.
Q: Do I need to know how to play by ear?
A: I will be showing how to do this entirely by ear, however, you don’t already need to know how to do so. In fact, one of the goals of this process is to demystify the whole process of learning by ear, so you can learn how to do so yourself!
Q: What if I can’t make it at the scheduled time?
A: No worries. If you register, you’ll be emailed a link to a replay of the workshop after it’s completed.
Q: Do you have samples of songs in different genres played in clawhammer style?
A: Yep! Below is the playlist from the “Clawhammer Song of the Week” series. You’ll find a wide mix of songs in the list, from old time, folk, classic rock, and pop.
